Fasting was already being practiced by the Romans in ancient times. The Christians adapted this ritual as a 40-day preparation for the Easter celebration. According to the principle "liquida non frangunt ieiunium" (liquids do not break the fast), the monks in the middle-age monasteries prepared a richer and more complex beer for the time of lent. Following this tradition, Schlenkerla Lentbeer is brewed with a blend of non-smoked pale malt and Schlenkerla Smoked Malt. Served unfiltered and with a higher malt concentration than the classic M盲rzen smoked beer, it has the "Brotzeit" (German for afternoon snack) already included, just as the monks would gave savored it in the past. The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed in accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smoky aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack). - miejscowo艣膰
